Author's Review
Formed in 1991 in Bristol England, Portishead created a soothing, dark sound that claimed the underground music scene before it impressed mainstream media. Portishead is so often underrated it makes me sick. This is a must have album for anyone that enjoys trip hop, excellent female vocals, and that soft romantic element in their music.
Dummy, released in 1994, emanates a dark side of us and captures a romantic side that glows through Beth Gibbon's angelic voice. This is one of the best albums to come out of the early 90s and is sadly one of those albums overlooked by major media.
Portishead has put out several efforts since the release of Dummy, but still are overlooked. Dummy remains their best effort with songs like "Glory Box," which have been covered by such artists as Mike Patton from the acclaimed "Epic" rock band Faith No More, and their debut single "Sour Times." Recommended tracks: Wandering Star, Glory Box, Numb.
