Author's Review
Don't fear Duke fans! Although Duke has switched from first- to third-person, he's still the same old
Dukey. Just as he was in Total Meltdown, Good ol' Captain Steroid is still fond of blasting alien scum
in two with a shotgun, and he has been working relentlessly on a whole new batch of pick-up lines for
the countless babes he encounters. In fact, even though the gore factor in Time To Kill is average by
some standards, the raunch factor is off-the-chart. Visually and verbally, Duke offends like never
before. So be warned parents, this game is definitely for mature audiences only. We'd love to get into
more detail regarding Duke's vulgar escapades, but so much of the juicy stuff would have to be
censored that it's really not worth it. Just know that Duke drops sexual innuendoes like a first-time
juggler drops balls.
But Time To Kill is not merely an excuse for filth. Behind the vulgarity lies a game in which the biggest
change is Duke's new third-person perspective. In addition to the new Duke animations (not to mention
the pleasure of looking at Duke's rump for hours on end), the new perspective dramatically changes the
way Duke is controlled onscreen. Now Duke's control is similar to another action star, Lara Croft.
Like Lara, Duke must holster his weapon in order to open a door or climb a ledge. And he can also
flip sideways; but needless to say, lining up a jump can be rather tedious.
Another change to Duke comes in the form of time travel. Duke and his alien adversaries wage war in
four different eras including a modern New York City, the Wild West, medieval times, and ancient
Rome. To fit in, Duke wears a cowboy hat in the Wild West, a kilt in medieval times, and a toga in
ancient Rome. The neat thing is, Duke's enemies also get into the spirit by dressing up in costume.
Despite the serious changes Duke has gone through in the new version of this game, he's still the same
old guy he's always been. Beneath the new fashions and new perspective, Duke is still a simple man
with simple pleasures. Whether Duke's in Los Angeles or ancient Rome, in first- or third-person,
nothing makes him forget his troubles like wasting alien scum and flirting with the ladies
