Author's Review
Drake & Josh Go Hollywood is a TV movie originally aired by Nickelodeon in January of 2006. To this day, they are stilling the TV series Drake & Josh (which this movie is obviously based off of) and occasionally they rerun the movie in place of normal season episodes.
Drake & Josh Go Hollywood is truly made for those viewers that already watch the show. For that reason, theyre isnt a lot of character building at the onset of this movie, viewers would most likely already be familiar with who the characters are.
At the beginning of the movie Josh (Josh Peck) is extremely excited about a a writing class he was accepted into. With his first assignment in his hand, writing about his most exciting adventure, hes both interested in telling his family about his achievement and getting to work with his story. Unfortunately, Josh quickly realizes, he hasnt really done anything exciting
Drake also has his own problem which revolves around his bands manager. Apparently, they person they have booking their gigs thinks a rest home is a good place for a teenage rock band to play
At the beginning of the movie we also find Drake & Joshs parents (Nancy Sullivan & Jonathan Goldstein) on the couch talking back and forth about a cruise. As it turns out theyre getting ready to leave in a day or two for a 10-day cruise. We also find out that Drake & Joshs little sister, Megan (Miranda Cosgrove) is going to be flying to Denver to visit and stay with a friend while their parents are gone.
Its not until Mom & Dad are gone that Josh & Drake take Megan to the airport to catch her flight. Unfortunately, not long after her plane is ready to take off do they realize that they put her on the wrong flight. After some short planning, Drake & Josh plan to follow along to save their little sister and wind up getting themselves in trouble also.
My Thoughts
Nickelodeon really did a pretty good job on this made for TV movie. Im sure there would have been many teens that would have made their way to the movie theaters had it been released there. Going from the TV show to the movie, there are a few noticeable differences, especially in the camera angels that they used and the fact that roamed off of the set.
While the movie has a decent plot, some of the actions of the characters are a bit odd and/or unbelievable. While Drake & Josh absolutely freak when they realize they put Megan on the wrong plane, she is pretty calm when she realizes the mistake. Unfortunately, her reaction just isnt consist with an 11 year olds normal reaction. None the less, the movie is fairly consistent as our the characters from the TV to the movie.
While the movie doesnt offer up any real special effects, high-end budget sets or the like the movie kept me interested through out with a balance of mild action and comedy.
Overall Drake & Josh Go Hollywood offers a clean movies for tons of young viewers with enough action and comedy to keep the older crowd interested too.
