Pros: Great writing, complex plot and characters, detailed surroundings, er... EVERYTHING!
Cons: Writing can be a tad over-descriptive, not for light readers!
The Bottom Line: Wholeheartedly recommended for all fantasy and sci-fi fans who aren't afraid of a complex plot!
Review: Sometime in our future, the people of Earth go forth and colonize other planets. One of these is the planet which came to be called Pern. Over the years the people of Pern created their own legends and mythologies, and the home planet of ...

Pros: Great storyline, dragons have great personality, good originality
Cons: Conversations were often a bit long.
Review: Anne McCaffrey's 'DragonFlight' completely goes against anything you ever thought you knew about dragons.
If you're like me, you've grown up thinking of dragons as large, stupid, fire-breathing creatures, whom knights are to slay for pride... |

Pros: great details, creative plot.
Cons: Does not explains things very well to new readers.
Review: First let me begin by saying that this series of books is very complicated, and before I talk about the book I will explain exactly how this world works.
These people live on a world called Pern. The geographical structure of this planet is... |

Pros: gripping plot, realistic characters and wonderful setting!
Cons: none.
Review: Telepathic Dragons, deadly silver rains, and brave and foreseeing dragonriders. Who could put them together better than the Dragonlady herself? First in Anne McCaffreys thrilling series, the "Dragonriders of Pern", Dragonflight begins the...

Pros: Great plot and vivid detail.
Cons: Not long enough!
Review: In this book, Written by Anne Mccaffrey, Dragons are protectors of a planet called Pern. No they are not creatures of myth they are animals that have been on the planet for who knows how long. Every 200 years deadly spores called threads rain down on...

Pros: A wonderful book & series
Cons: Not necessarily for children
Review: Many years ago I became hooked on the whole Dragonriders of Pern series. Whenever I wish to escape from real life, Pern is where I go to hide. While the problems of Lessa are not normal for any person anywhere, the book is written so well that you...

Pros: There are dragons--what more do you want?
Cons: I want my own dragon! Though a firelizard would do.
The Bottom Line: fell from the sky like a wisp of thread and was scorched to ash by a passing Dragon.
Review: Over the summer, I decided to keep my reading material light, simple and entertaining. With that goal in mind, I decided to revisit Anne McCaffrey's Pern for the first time in over 15 years. While I found more flaws in the writing than I ...

Pros: Intriguing, absorbing, engaging, interesting, and a quick read.
Cons: Occasionally awkward prose, slightly predictable.
The Bottom Line: A very worthwhile read, and the first in a worthwhile serieshighly recommended.
Review: Take me away, Anne. Take me far away to a place where I can forget the mundanity of my everyday life. Take me to a place where dragons fly, and where the survival of an entire world depends on the heroism of a few brave souls. I want to forget the ...

Pros: Incredibly detailed world, larger than life story
Cons: Characters not as well developed as setting and plot.
The Bottom Line: Great science fiction for fantasy readers, or fantasy for science fiction readers.
Review: I have been a fan of the Dragonriders of Pern series most of my life, and Dragonflight is one of my favorites of the series. What makes Anne's world of Pern so appealing is the loving attention to the many details of the planet and its society. The ...

Pros: fascinating world, blend of sci fi and fantasy elements
Cons: hero is hypermasculinized
Review: Anne McCaffrey's dragons of Pern are no fairy tale creatures, but dinosaur-like beasts who play an integral role in their planet's ecology. The preface to Dragonflight (which science fiction fans who enjoy figuring out the background of a story...
