Dragon Ball Z. A long running series with a total of 13 movies to speak of. This is movie #6. Dont know what
DBZ is? Well, its a long story, so if you really wanna know, I suggest going back and doing some research. Its possible to watch this without any previous
DBZ knowledge, but there are a lot of past references made that you probably wont get.
Whos Cooler? He first appeared in movie #5
Coolers Revenge. As the brother of Freezer, he wanted to get a piece of the guy who took out his brother. Someone that strong is definitely worth fighting, right? Thats what they all think. Needless to say, Cooler didnt exactly win, and a couple years later, hes made a big comeback.
Ironically enough, its planet Namek (the new one) that gets attacked by something called the Big Ghetti Star a big, ugly machine put together by tons of smaller pieces of space junk. Everyone else (Goku and the boys) are all on earth, minding their own business when they get a telepathic call from Dende telling them of the big problem on new Namek. Of course they all hop on a spaceship to get their butts over there and save the day. This time the group consists of Goku, Piccolo, Gohan, Krillin, Oolong, Yajirobi, and Master Roshi. For those of you who like Trunks, sorry, hes not in this one.
They get to the planet and it isnt very long before the fighting starts. First all they have to worry about are big, tough robots that have been taking all the Nameks away in chains. But thats not all they have to worry about. Goku is suddenly greeted by a familiar voice Cooler! But Cooler isnt quite the same hes stronger, better, faster
shinier. Yes, hes now Metal Cooler, and hes ready to kick some serious Goku butt.
Then its an all out battle. While Goku and Metal Cooler go at it, the rest are left to deal with the numerous robots. After a little bit, it seems as though Goku isnt having the best of luck with his new foe when guess who shows up with his usual awesome flare?? Vegeta!! YAY! And I must say, its great fun seeing Vegeta and Goku fight together.
So now all they have to do is destroy Metal Cooler, the Big Ghetti Star, and everything will be fine again. Except theres one problem
or two
or about a hundred. Can Vegeta and Goku find out whats really going on and save new Namek? Or will it suffer the same fate as the previous Namek?
The Good: This movie was good times all around. I love Vegeta and Goku and the way they interact. Metal Cooler was a great bad guy and the way things turned in the end just made it that much more interesting. There was a little blood which always brings in some more drama (when done right) and a nice dose of comedic relief, though sometimes I just feel sorry for Krillin.
The Bad: The cover!! Come on FUNi!! Get with the program. For those of you reading this, those multiples of Cooler really dont come in until the end. Its supposed to be one of those aw, that sucks to be them! surprises. But they totally give it away by the cover (as you can plainly see). And Gohan
Gohan, Gohan. Once again he annoys me. And Krillin too. Theyre strong enough to take out a couple of those tough robots, yet later on in the ship they seem helpless. Considering the past things these guys have been through, they shouldnt be so weak, or at least lacking in the will to fight.
Five stars! This is one of my favorite movies. Its got an interesting plot, great fight scenes, Vegeta, and some goofy parts. Its got a lil something for everyone. If you dont see any of the
DBZ movies, then go with this one because its a good mix of characters and the aforementioned details. Enjoy!
