Author's Review
This is a book that my youngest daughter (aged 3) was given on her sister's birthday, so she didn't feel left out by her sister getting a load of pressies! Needless to say she was really pleased to get a present!
My kids are avid fans of Dr Seuss (as am I) and find that his books are easy to read and really enjoyable. I have previously reviewed Green Eggs and Ham, which is a firm favourite in our house, even to the point of the kids asking for green eggs and ham for their tea! (And yes I have worked out how to make the eggs green!).
The book that little madam was given is actually a hardback book, not like the picture on the description. It is about half the size of the one in the description, and would fit in a handbag no problems. In fact it fits perfectly in my handbag when we go on days out, and is perfect for keeping the kids happy, especially little madam, who has the attention span of a flea.
It is written in Dr Seuss's inimitable style of fun, light-hearted rhyme and starts at A with Aunt Annie's Alligator, with each letter having its own page of the book. It goes right to Z with the Zizzer Zazzer Zuzz! I have no idea what kind of creature that is, but it looks like fun!
As for an opinion, my main source of opinion has come from the children and the LOVE it! They are forever taking it out of the bookcase and reading it. My oldest daughter takes great pleasure from reading the book to her little sister. And the little one likes to have it read to her at bed time.
Educationally it is a fun way for the kids to learn the alphabet, and I have to say that the little one's ABC have improved a lot. I'm sure a lot of that improvement has to do with her nursery but some can be attributed to the book and the fact that her older sister is working with her.
But for fun factor it is unbeatable! The kids love to sit down and have some fun talking about the words and letters. The illustrations are wonderfully simple yet detailed enough to be fun for the kids.
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone with kids that are about 3 to 6 years old. I can't say much for other age groups because my kids are only 3 and 6, so I know about their preferences.
I sould have to say that this is a great book to have, needless to say that there is a rather large order going to be placed on Amazon for the rest of the books.
Thanks for reading and happy learning with Dr Seuss! Di x
