Author's Review
After his last album "The Aftermath", Chronic 2001 is something you would never expect. It blew up the charts staying number 1 for a long time. Dre's first CD "Chronic" was good. It was gangsta and hardcore. Those are the two things that he's good at rapping about because that's what he is and has always been. Chronic is slang for Pot.
This is another one of my favorite CDs, next to Snoop Doggy Dogg's CDs. It has very well written lyrics. There's many hidden messages in them. You might hear it and not know it because lots of them have to do with things that have happened to him in the last seven years. I learned lots of it on VH1's Behind The Music.
Some of the messages have to do with his brother that died, Eazy-E (a former member of his old group NWA) and what his life has been like when he tried making The Aftermath. I think that he is really creative. Even though his lyrics have a message to them it still sounds gangsta and hardcore just like any good rapper would do, except a lot better.
Almost as good as the lyrics are the beats. They're very good, but I don't think anything can compare with his lyrics. His beats have a real good bass, so when you put the volume and bass up you can feel the vibrations it makes. The beats are also good listeners when you just want to hear music without words. With the beats and lyrics combined, Dr. Dre's songs are topping all the charts. I listen to this CD all the time. I like it so much that I've memorized 10 out of the 22 songs on the album. That is a lot, especially for me.
Featured on this album are many other rappers. My favorite track, track 7 - What's The Difference, features Eminem and Xzibit. Eminem is a rapper that has been around for a few years and everybody loves him for his music. I would say that Xzibit is a little bit underground, but he's starting to get on the charts. With Dre, Eminem and Xzibit combined the song kicks major A$$. He also features Warren G. and a few other rappers. Eminem is in 5 of the songs, so you hear him a lot.
I love this CD so much. It's so gangsta and gangsta is definitely what I like to hear. This is definitely Dre's best CD and there are no ways it could be improved. I think that if you like any kind of rap or dance music that this CD is for you. It is great for partying so go out and buy it.
