Works well for our dogs...

We purchased 2 of these gates to keep our dogs on our main level. The advertise one handed use and it is pretty much one handed if you have something not super important (like a baby!) in your other hand. If you are using this in the same place all the time it is a good gate.

Assembly
Out of the box these were easy to assemble. Set up took just a couple of minutes. I did pinch my finger between the bypassing plastic.... one of a few times I have done it.

Function
With the push of a button and lift of the handle the locking mechanism releases and it is fairly easy to move (if you have room around you). I put this in our hall once and had an armload of laundry, when I pulled on the handle the lock released but I couldn't get it turned around and I dropped my laundry, I guess I should have put the basket down but I took one handed as meaning one handed.

The way the gate locks is pressure on the opposing walls you put it on. There is an extra button on the handle that when pushed allows you to lift the handle up higher releasing the "setting mechanism" This can be difficult to use and sometimes does not always work on the first try.

There are springy padded end pieces that touch the walls where the gate presses and I assume that they are there to protect the walls but after the laundry incident we open them every time we have to pass. This means that they get a lot of use and they are holding up well however I can not say the same for my walls. We have lots of chipped paint.

The gates work well on uneven spaces however, after a year of being at the foot of my stairs where the baseboard is 6 inches high up the wall and about 1/4 thick the one that we have there will not work anywhere else in the house because the gate has warped in to a permanent state of unevenness.

Durability & Use
Once set in place these are like having extra walls in your house. The super amount of pressure applied to the walls and heavy duty plastic have stood up to dog scratching, jumping, bumping and wrestling and they don't even budge one centimeter.

For people with children, these gates are not recommended for use at the top of stairs. This was not an issue for us because our use was dogs.

Conclusion
If we were to start over I would be more likely to have wooden gates professionally installed to save time on unlocking and locking this gate all the time. My wall would have also appreciated this.
What you get for the price is fair.
