Author's Review
I originally bought PF Magic's Petz 2 thinking it was just a screen saver featuring dogs that play on your desktop, but it was a really fun game as well! There is an adoption center where you can adopt as many petz as you like, featuring five different breeds of dogz. On the official website you can download more breeds (free).
When the upgraded Petz 3 came out about a year later we got both the dogz and the catz versions, and it is still one of my sons favorite games. In Petz 3 the dogz and catz can breed, allowing you to have newborn puppiez and kittiez in all sorts of mixed breeds. There are interactive play scenes that you can take your petz to, like a beach and a backyard. There are even clothes you can dress them up in.
I don't think this game really offers much, if any, educational value, but it is nice, non violent, and easy to play. It can probably teach responsibility to a certain extent as the petz will run away if ignored or abused. However, they don't die!
The website occasionally offers free downloads of new clothes and toys, but the website is frequently down and always slow. You can also adopt other players petz from websites and upload your own.
This is a fun game for little children all the way up to adults, especially if you can't have a real dog or cat.
