Author's Review
If you in here reading this, you know all about the spex of the car 450 hp, 480 torque. 0-60 4.0, etc etc etc. These are just numbers off a motor trend, these are real life. My GTECH tells me my 0-60 times are 3.9, and my 1/4 mile slips show 11.9 (12.1 mostly). The dyno is a clear 420 at the rear. The numbers you read in the mags are conservative if anything. But what you don't read about is the intangibles to owning this car.
First, it's a true ownership experience, yes, it's still a Dodge, and service is still sub-Lexus level, but Dodge tries very hard to make the ownership experience worthwhile. We have a very (Dodge pseudo-sponsored) active club, and we are always getting little Viper freebies.
Second, I have owned some decent cars in my day, and I have friends who have some really nice cars, and I have to say, this car is the only one that people will stop their cars to take a picture. I have caused one wreck (women staring at me, not the car, I'm sure :)) and one autograph. I am nobody, it's the car that makes you somebody. You always get the first valet spot, no matter how many mercedes, porsches, or ferraris are around.
Third, racing this car is a dream! You are the top dog at every event, the one to beat. WHich is kind of a drawback, when you get beat, it is a HUGE accomplishment by the NO2 honda with one seat to beat you by .2 on the strip.
SO why the 2001? It's got standard ABS, but in almost every other important way, it's the same as it's predecessors...
I love this thing so much, I am on the list for the 2003! I totally didn't think I would like an American car so well, I HAD planned to get a Ferrari instead, but not after this experience!
