Author's Review
Doctor De Soto is a mouse. His wife, Mrs. De Soto is a mouse as well. The good Doctor is a talented dentist with no end of animal patients. Mrs. De Soto is his assistant. The De Sotos are kind to all animal patients, except for "cats and other dangerous animals." Just read the sign outside the doctor's office, if you don't believe me. One day, a desperate fox shows up wailing and begging for tooth help. After weighing their options, The De Sotos reluctantly agree to help. The fox, with "a rotten bicuspid and unusually bad breath," is in so much pain, that he allows Dr. De Soto to climb up into his mouth and look at the bad tooth. (Normally, he'd eat the "tasty little morsel!) After Dr. De Soto removes the tooth, he instructs the fox to return the next day to get his new gold tooth. The next day, a much better feeling fox decides he WILL have the De Sotos for a snack, using his new gold tooth. Fortunately, Doctor De Soto and his wife have a plan for such "wicked, wicked creatures," and cleverly outfox the fox.
This book is precious. My daughter, age 4, loves it. She also has a little Doctor De Soto doll. It has helped us to introduce the entire filed of dentistry in an easy, lighthearted way. We read it quite often. It is 32 pages long and available in hardback or paperback. There are other books in the Doctor De Soto series.
