I always liked the Goo Goo Dolls - there was something special about their song 'Name'. I didn't really discover these songs until I was sitting on my boyfriend's bedroom floor. The song 'Slide' came on, and I was just totally in love with the song. He bought me the CD a few weeks later, and I couldn't stop listening to it.
My favorite song on this album is Slide - the music and the lyrics are just beautiful. Actually, there is no song on this cd that I don't like even a little bit. My other two favorites are 'Black Balloon' and 'Acoustic #3'. I think Johnny has a great voice, especially when it is put to such powerful, moving music. I like the mix of ballads and rock songs as well..especially when the rock songs act like ballads!
What makes these songs so special is that they're almost like poems just put to music. The lines are so overwhelming, they are really moving. This album also features some of Robby Takac's songs, such as 'January Friend' 'Amigone' and 'Extra Pale'. While I do prefer Johnny's songs, these are worth listening to also.
I was so in love with the Goo Goo Dolls that I NEEDED to see them in concert. Unfortunately, it was an outdoor concert -- and there just happened to be a huge rainstorm. Well, my boyfriend and I stayed for the whole show, even though we wound up standing just outside the arena, where it was covered. Sipping hot chocolate in August, while freezing my entire body was totally worth listening to the band play live.
I'd recommend this album to absolutely anyone - if I could stand in the rain and be happy listening to them, then you know the album is great!
