Author's Review
Enchanting, Humorous, Thought Provoking and Heart Warming all describe Disney's The Kid. This movie has charm that can make a young child smile and make a grown adult look at their life in a different light. The comedy present in this feature may not be rolling on the floor laughter but it does present some humor to be enjoyed by all. The storyline warms the heart of the adult who thinks about the meaning behind this original Disney movie.
So What Is Disney's The Kid All About?
Disney's The Kid features Russell (Russ) Duritz played by Bruce Willis as successful image consultant who is better known by his friends as a pompous jerk. Russ is wealthy driving around in his black sports car and living in a highly secured home. He is established in his career but that is where it stops. He has no empathy, compassion, or manners when it comes to others. He is a blunt, out spoken, rude and hostile individual who cares less who he hurts with the strongest weapon of the world, his tongue.
Russ begins to hear noises and soon starts seeing things believing he is hallucinating to soon find that what he has been seeing and hearing is himself as a child.
Rusty, played by Spencer Breslin is a pudgy eight year old with a heart of gold who is disappointed to learn he has grown up to be a loser. He is saddened to learn that he has no dog, no wife, no friends and he doesn't fly a jet. The things he had dreamed for had not become reality and instead he was an over worked lonely man filled with hatred.
Together Rusty and Russ go through experiences trying to find out how Rusty managed to come over 30 years to the future to see himself almost 40. Which one is supposed to learn a lesson with this unexplainable situation, Russ or Rusty?
In the ending all things come together and the past, present and future collide with all the answers. This is one film you will not be able to predict because it is one of a kind and not a re make of any other film. Disney has an original on their hands with Disney's The Kid.
Locating This Great Disney Movie
Just this past Friday night I saw Disney's The Kid at my local Walmart. You may also consider looking for this feature at Target, Circut City, Best Buy,or your local video store. Disney movies are usually pretty easy to locate and if you rather shop on the Internet I suggest that you try Bigstar.com, Half.com or Ebay.com.
Estimation of Price
Walmart has Disney's The Kid on DVD with the price tag of $14.99. With that in mind, the VHS version should cost you a little less. That is an affordable price to pay in my opinion. You may find it for less at Half.com or Ebay.com.
Age Suggestion
I have to admit that the story line is a bit more mature than most Disney movies I have seen in the past. I believe that a young child would have to be very mature to comprehend the entire movie. This is a wonderful family flick with children that are at least 8 years of age. It is my humble opinion that children under 8 will not likely understand the theme behind the movie. However, there are advantages to buying the movie now if you have younger children. First, the adults in the home can get the full experience and enjoy this movie. Secondly, children grow and it won't be long before they will be able to comprehend the movie from beginning to end. My son who is 6 enjoys watching the movie but he does not fully understand how things collided and what the storyline is actually about. With one hour and forty-four minutes of comedy and drama the rating for this feature is PG.
Chelle's Final Thought
A person can have looks, success and all the power in the world and still be considered a "LOSER." Understanding that life deals us difficult situations, disappointment and enjoyment is just part of living. Learning what is most important in life and having happiness is the true meaning behind "LIVING." Russ and Rusty give eachother outlooks on life that they had not considered before. They both learn from eachother and are on a search to find out how to get things put back together and flying right!
Will Rusty or is that Russ, ever have his wife, family, dog named Chester and fly a jet? Or is it all a big dream?
