Author's Review
I actually thought to write this while I was thinking about an "Epinions Prod mailing list" drunk write off that occurred several weeks ago. Well, this is my addition. Sorry I'm late. Fellow members and raters, feel free to dis this and rate poorly if it sucks, hence the fact that I am currently incredibly drunk. And underage. Being rebellious and illegal rules.
Dirty Jokes and Beer: Stories of the Unrefined was written by actor/stand-up comedian Drew Carey in 1997. He is well known for his sitcom "The Drew Carey Show", which resides as my favorite television show, ever. This was the first book Drew has ever taken the time to write. I am so drunk.
Drew dedicated the first 150 pages of Dirty Jokes and Beer: Stories of the Unrefined writing in the first person, or his normal self, trashing people and being hysterically funny. He started each chapter with a an amazing dirty joke and also wrote about general topics including:
Drew's guide to dating, where he spoke of his inability to get any throughout his teenage years.
and
His hatred toward the women who destroy his workplace by suing every man who either looks at her the wrong way or tells a dirty joke for sexual harassment. This chapter, along with several other parts, seems to show a dark and angry side to our beloved Drew. Does this bring us down and cause us to hate him? I sure as hell hope not. Drew is the man.
I'm on my 6th beer, not including all the Mike's Hard Lemonade I drank earlier. Just thought I'd let you know.
The first several chapters of Dirty Jokes and Beer: Stories of the Unrefined(entitled "Jokes" and "Beer") were hysterical. His hilarious venting and b*tching as described above should keep you content and on your feet as you finally discover the person behind his Television character.
Drew Carey concluded Dirty Jokes and Beer: Stories of the Unrefined with 5 short stories that he wrote himself. As he explains before they start, some of the stories are based on fiction, and some of the stories are based on fact. To be honest, two of the stories almost caused me to see Drew in a different way before I realized that it was all made up and in his head. Apart from that, the stories were interesting as well as hysterical, and I give Drew props for his obvious writing abilities.
To conclude, I enjoyed Dirty Jokes and Beer: Stories of the Unrefined so incredibly much that I cannot wait to read it again someday. Drew made me feel almost every emotion possible throughout his book, and made me respect him so much more then I could ever imagine.
I loved Dirty Jokes and Beer: Stories of the Unrefined, and I can hardly wait for Drew's sophomore novel, if it is ever written.
