Worst vacuum I've ever owned
Date of Review: Jan 24, 2004
PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE!! As a bachelor I went through 5-10 vacuums, with the help of some slovenly roommates, of course. As a mechanic and engineer, I have to say only "planned obsolescence" must be the marketing strategy of Dirt Devil. These things are built to fall apart quickly. Compared to the Eureka vacuums I've owned, well, there's no comparison. If you want clean floors and some longevity in your vacuum, buy something else. The handle literally broke off almost immediately on this vacuum. It's made of a rigid and brittle plastic that won't take any non-gentle use whatsoever. Once we screwed and duct-taped the handle back on, the belt went. What a nightmare replacing the belt! Actually, the nightmare was getting the brittle body components to fit together again. Less than a year after buying it, the horrible little machine is held together with seven extra screws and duct tape. It still functions, but only with extreme care. What a waste of our money. Never will purchase Dirt Devil again!!
