Disappointed with the Dirt Devil
Date of Review: Feb 19, 2000
I came into the market for a vacuum cleaner a little over one year ago. I was told by a reliable source (my mother) that the Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners had been rated tops by Consumer Reports. I purchased a Swivel Glide 12 amp MVP with the edger attachment. I paid around $120.00 for the appliance at my local K-Mart and was disturbed to learn that I would have to purchase an additional attachment to vacuum bare floors (I learned this from the Royal Company, who makes Dirt Devils). I find necessity of the additional attachment cumbersome when switching from carpet to linoleum often (for bathrooms, dining room, kitchen, etc.). Although the vacuum cleaner is easy to push around, it doesn't do me much good since it doesn't pick anything up. When vacuuming in the summertime, barefooted, I can feel the dirt hitting my feet behind the vacuum. I can see objects left behind by my Dirt Devil and after swiping over a particular object several times, I can still have the pleasure of picking the object up by hand. I would be disturbed to learn of all the things that are being left behind by the vacuum that I can't see. The on-board attachments work well, however I find that having to attach an edger is quite inconvenient when there are brands that need no attachment for edging. I find myself putting off the duty of vacuuming because of the lousy performance I get from the Dirt Devil. I am quite dissatisfied with my Dirt Devil and if I could relive that fateful day all over again, I would definitely go with another brand.
