Dirt Devil Ultra - Great for Steps

Our Dirt Devil Ultra Hand Vac was purchased almost five years ago for one specific purpose: to vacuum the interior steps in our house, so that our heavy upright vacuum would not have to be carried and balanced while cleaning them.

This little red cleaning machine is small and fairly light so it is easy to use on steps. It is a corded unit, but the cord is extremely long (about 20 feet), allowing me to finish the steps and then some. There is a rubber strap underneath the handle for storage of the cord when the vacuum is not in use, but I have found it cumbersome to use and much easier just to wind the cord around the unit.

It has a 4 AMP motor, which seems to make a lot of noise when it is running. This does not bother me because it does the job that I need done, and that is primarily getting into the corners and around the railing posts on my carpeted steps. I have also used it on the couch and for a quick cleanup in the kitchen. This is not the model you want to use to vacuum your entire house, unless crawling around on your knees does not bother you.

There is a hose attached to the Dirt Devil Ultra Hand Vac, which works well, but does come out of its socket fairly easily. In order to switch from the standard revolving brush that you would use on a basic flat surface, to the hose, there is a plastic “door” which must be pulled down to cover the brush. There are two speeds to choose from and you can switch from one to the other easily as the button is right below where your thumb rests while it is use.

Dirt Devil Ultra Hand Vac uses type Dirt Devil type “G” vacuum bags which are for all corded hand held models. The last package I purchased contained 3 bags and was about $4. I have not kept a record of how often I need to change the bags, but it seems to me that they do hold a reasonable amount.

When we purchased this appliance, it came with a bonus of an attachment kit. Included was a dusting brush, an upholstery tool, two extension wands and a wall storage bracket.
