Author's Review
I have been struggling with pet hair problems for years, but think that I may have finally found the solution that will make the whole cleaning process so much easier. While at the store, I picked up a Dirt Devil Kone, a relatively new handheld (and bagless) vacuum cleaner. Made by Dirt Devil, it is one in a long line of helpful products, with this one created to be even more appealing to a new audience. Looking at the Kone, it doesn't at first even appear to be a vacuum, but better resembles a lava lamp out of the 1970's. The construction of the design may seem a little odd at first, but it is actually built very sturdy with the intent being that it can be part of your furniture, and not necessarily stand out as something that doesn't belong in your living room. This one sits nicely in the corner of our living room, ready at a moments notice to pop it out of the holder and put it to use right away.
The Kone is built in two parts, with the base of the device being the charger of the vacuum, and also the home to where it resides when not in use. The top part comes off and out of the base, and presents itself as an easily held vacuum that doesn't even way 2 pounds in total. At the front of the vacuum is a nozzle that measures about 1 1/2 inches in width, and which can suck up a lot of things from your carpet or upholstery. To work the vacuum there is a button on the end of the handle that you press in order to get the engine started, and it can remain in use until the charge of the vacuum is expended. That charge comes from plugging the base into your normal electrical socket, and they recommend charging it for at least 24 hours before your first use. There is no real set-up to the vacuum, other than taking it out of the packaging and plugging it into the wall, and it couldn't be easier to put it to use the first time.
After the vacuum is charged, it is easy to just lift it out of the cradle and put to use. The Kone works on a 7.2 volt motor which is pretty powerful for a little machine like this, and does give off a little noise while in use. That noise is no more than any other vacuum I have used though, so it isn't even an issue when I use it during the day. The suction on the Kone is also quite good, and it works perfectly on things like stairs. I use the Kone to get into the crevices and corners of our stairs, as well as back and forth on the landing, because it works really well at picking up all of the loose cat hair. When it gets to shedding season (Spring / Early Summer) it's almost like an entire cat is spread around on the stairs, so it can take a little work to get through all of the vacuuming. With the Kone, is beyond easy, because when you run it along the carpet, the hairs, as well as everything else, is picked up right away by the vacuum. With the low level of weight, and the small compact presentation of the Kone, it is extremely easy to maneuver along the stairs as well as on the shoulders of the couch.
When it comes to vacuuming up cat hair now, I have one of the easiest tools I have ever used in this Kone vacuum. It's easy to use, and cleaning it out is just as easy if you make sure to follow the directions. The way to do this, is by taking the front part of the Kone off, and pulling out the dirt cup and filter inside the device. You can then just pour the dirt cup into the trash, replace the parts, and go about your business again. If for some reason the filter becomes damaged or you need a replacement, they sell them separately for a lower cost. Ours still works great, and the Kone has been performing brilliantly for us on every use. Life has become a lot easier around here with a tool that can not only deal with the dirt, but takes care of the cat hair that has been a problem for quite some time. The Kone was selling for only $39.99 (on sale) when I came across it, and it has been way more than worth the price of purchase. Having a vacuum like this makes life so much easier, and it is something that I can give my highest recommendation.
