Alfred Hitchcock's--Dial 'M' For Murder-1954 |
|||||||
|
Pros: Ray Milland and Grace Kelly, editing, direction
Cons: I can't think of any, except that is is not available on DVD.
The Bottom Line: This is a classic "who-dunnit", or more appropriately, "how-dunnit", with all the classic touches by the master of the genre, Alfred Hitchcock.
Review: In case you are interested in one of the best constructed one-room movies made in several decades, Dial 'M' for Murder has to qualify for at least one of the top ten. Unusual for Hitchcock, this is a mystery pure and simple, and it isnt even that...

DIAL M FOR MURDER: A Hitchcock "stage movie" |
|||
|
Pros: Ray Milland, John Williams, direction, script, simple design
Cons: Grace Kelly's acting/character, appeals to a certain number of people, a lot to take in
The Bottom Line: An exciting play....whoops, film to watch.
Review: 1954 was a big year for both Alfred Hitchcock and Grace Kelly. Both Hitchcock and Kelly were part of the successful thriller, Rear Window, which went onto be one of the most revered Hitchcock movies of all-time. Also, Grace Kelly starred with...

Pros: Ensemble cast, director, plot, b&w
Cons: no visible chemistry between female & male leads
Review: A few weeks ago while scanning the preview channel I saw Dial M For Murder being shown on the Arts & Entertainment channel. The movie started five minutes earlier but I was quickly drawn into the plot.

Pros: Great story, great performances.
Cons: A little dated.
Review: DIAL M FOR MURDER is a fabulous murder mystery that mainly takes place in one location the apartment of a married couple pretending to still be in love. It is an extraordinary character piece which is why I suppose that everyone's been dying to remake...

Pros: Grace Kelly, ending
Cons: lack of suspense, no character development
The Bottom Line: In an average film from Alfred Hitchock, we see the process an average man goes through to try and have his wife murdered and the reprecussions.
Review: Alfred Hitchcock had a thing for Grace Kelly in the mid 1950's casting her in 3 consecutive dramatic roles. It started with Dial M for Murder, moved on with Rear Window, and ended with To Catch a Thief. It appears that he tried out new things with Dial ...

The Perfect Murder: Dial M for Murder |
|||||||||
|
Pros: Ray Milland, John Williams,
Cons: Grace Kelly, Bob Cummings, Story
The Bottom Line: Dial M for Murder is one of the Hitchcock's that, while good, is not in the same league with his top tier movies like Psycho.
Review: Dial M for Murder (1954) This is one of the famous Hitchcocks that featured cool blonde Grace Kelly as a rich gal with everything, including an extramarital affair and a jealous husband. Kelly's husband is old smoothie Ray Milland, once a tennis ...

Pros: Ray Milland, John Williams, some suspense
Cons: characters, limited sets, talky
Review: Dial M for Murder was the first of three consecutive Hitchcock films that had Grace Kelly as the leading lady. By far the best of the three was the second, Rear Window. Hitchcock was working on that movie as Dial M for Murder was...
