Upscale DVD

The Bottom Line: I'm very happy with this purchase. This is a quality device which delivers on its promises. If you are considering a high-end dedicated DVD machine, this fills that need.
After researching DVD machines for about a year and going without a CD player (used the PC) for two years I was ready for a dedicated machine to use as a core music media player and a keystone to my future digital video systems. There was a decent amount of pre-release press on this device. I considered the DVD-9000, but the 3800 had an almost identical feature set, and I would not have to upgrade everything else I had.
It is a smart machine and scans the disks for media types and configurations. You can play a variety of medias, only a few are unsupported.
A key reason I bought this device was sound quality. It is outstanding. Playing DTS or DVD Audio formats it truly reaches levels I've never heard of range, definition, and reality.
Since I've yet to get my digital video monitor I'm on the most base video output of 480i. Looking forward to the Silicon Imaging engine to kick in with full force. In the base 480i mode, performance is fine and you can monitor the way the machine scans and determines visual source material and implements 3-2 pull down.
Since it's a sophisticated machine, set up and use need to be thought out. Once it's up and running it's fairly straight forward.
