Author's Review
This is one of Koontz's lighter and shorter works, but it is by no means less intense than the rest. The version featured here is a revised version of "Demon Seed". Looking back at the original, Koontz had thought it more a good idea than a good novel, and therefore decided to rewrite it. The writing was tremendously improved upon, and setting suitably updated to reflect more modern times, but the basic plot remains the same.
In this novel, Susan is a considerably paranoid woman who lives within protected walls. Her entire house is wired to one of the most sophisticated security systems ever devised. Unfortunately for her, the inherent artificial intelligence that governs her house has just grown a trifle too intelligent. In fact, it (he?) now harbours an emotion most computer scientists would not have believed possible -- love. Watching his mistresses' every move, he constantly admires her beauty, even lusts for her. Where will such a foolhardy infatuation lead? Only time, and the pages of this book, will tell. Just know that ultimately, no computer, no matter how intelligent, can ever outwit a human mind.
Or, at least, that's what we think. And hope.
After all, who'd have thought a computer could love a woman?
