Author's Review
I have been using this for nearly 2 years with great success and only recently stumbled on these reviews.
The reviews are right on the target, this is a highly portable and very functional unit with a quality display.
Let me point out what the reviewers missed. This is one of few newer laptops with legacy ports such as serial and parallel. I use a professional software at work that uses a parallel and an OBD2 automotive scanner that uses a serial. If you need these ports, this is the laptop to get. Most laptops these days have only USBs.
The laptop works fine and newer let me down in the 2 years of heavy use and commuting back and forth between home and office. The pentium M and grafic card is powerful enough for office use and even most gaming (only slightly slower than the pentium 4 2.6 GHz PC I have at home). 512 MB of RAM is more than enough for win XP general use.
Has some quirks: the pointer is slow to engage on start up, up to a minute or so, but it doesnt bother me since I use an optical USB mouse: the laptop pointers rack havoc with my hand with carpal tunnel syndrome.
It can be hot, and thus, I monitor the hard drive temp with Dtemp software. With some AV scans or similar use, the temp shoots over 50 C danger zone, so I have to pause. Obviously I take great care of my hard drives, since no one wants to loose data. I am also a Ghost back up freak.
Battery is acceptable, lithium is much better that the older
Ni-MH design in my older dell laptop.
Other than that no problems whatsoever!
