Pros:  Price, Features, Design, Plenty of Ports, 17" Screen, Weight, design.

Cons:  Have to find special accessories for 17" Screen, Otherwise none.

The Bottom Line:  This is the best computer for the money, It gets everything done with speed. It handles everything that I throw at it.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

Over the last year I have had 8 computers and have not been satified with any of them. I was good with my Imac G5 but when dual core came out I wanted that. I was going to get a imac Dual Core but they were a little expensive for a non-laptop, so I decided to take my search else where.

After researching for several days I concluded Dell had the best computer for the money. So I decided on them. My specs werent very picky - 17" Widescreen, Dual Core, Plenty of Ram and Hard Drive space and at least some style to the design, I didnt want to carry no ugly brick around. The only model that met my need was the e1705 so I decided on that. It had EVERYTHING I wanted.

Out of curiosity one day when I was building a custom model on dell.com and decided to look at the deals the dell outlet had, and that was the best choice i had made.

The systems went extremely fast so I of course had to be qucik when I saw one i wanted. In the end I ended up with a Dell Inspiron e1705 1.66ghz, 1gb Ram, 100gb 5200 HDD, DVD Burner, Brightview and Xp Professional all for 879.99, which of course was one of the best deals I have ever gotten, considering if you went and built the system on their site it was $1493. I got everything I wanted for a very low price for the specific model. It arrive in the mail and I immediatly fell in love with it, as did my wife. She finally ended up wanting one so I gave her mine and decided to try for better. This time I wanted the Video Card in the mix. I got a decent price of 1,199 for 17" Samsung Display (no brightview), Media Center 2005, 1.83ghz Core Duo, DVD Burner, 1gb Ram, 100gb HDD, ATI Radeon 256mb GPU, and so on. Also a great deal.

Now for the oomputer -- The computer is excellent the screen is very readable and I have come to love th 17" on a laptop. The speed is also very amazing!!! It is so much faster then anything i have used. I got a 8500 score in 3D Mark2001 which is the best I have ever had on any computer even with my AMD 3200+ Gaming Rig. This computer also looks very amazing. Although I could do without the white bumpers the design is very scriking. Of course it offers plenty of ports such as S-Video, 6 USB Ports, memory card slots, 1394 Port, DVI and VGA Ports, etc. You have plenty of room for plugging in anything you need. Despite the laptop having everything it does it was a rather decent 8lbs and its very easy to carry around. Everything is great on this PC and I couldnt ask for more.

Everything is great on this computer with almost no cons besides that because its 17" you have to spend more time looking for cases and such or spend more money. I spend 80.00 on a Targus Platinum case for this baby when I coulda for a 15.4" Case for 14.99 of comparable quality. But thats the only Con. This computer is wonderful and I plan on keeping it for along time.
