Who is Jack Handey?

Those that have watched Saturday Night Live probably remember the segment called “Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey.” It was just a piece of oddball advice and observations by one of the SNL writers. He might say something like, “I wish I had a dollar for every time I spent a dollar, because then, yahoo!, I’d have all my money back.”

Deepest Thoughts is a collection of those observations. It’s a small book and there’s not much to it, so it’s hard to write a huge review. Since it’s just a collection of the observations, there are no characters or plot to speak of. This isn’t a book that you’ll be reading for hours; you could probably read it straight through in ten or fifteen minutes. However, you are going to get a lot of laughs out of it.

One of my favorites from the book, is, “I bet the sparrow looks at the parrot and thinks, yes, you can talk, but listen to yourself!” They’re all a little offbeat and unusual. This would be a great book to buy as a gift or for a coffee table.
