Sharp/Dacor no more

I bought the DMT2420 from an online retailer in July of 2005 to complement our other stainless appliances in the kitchen. I liked the large touch screen even though it put out way too much light at night and there was no way to dim it. It worked fine for our purposes, cooking vegetables, making oatmeal, and was the hands down best microwave for popping corn! I have never had popcorn done this outstanding in a microwave before. Although this microwave was very loud. Then just over a year from the purchase date it stopped working. The timer would count down, but the microwave would not turn on, no fan noise, no heating just a useless timer counting down. I took it apart to see if there was something obvious I could fix.. a loose wire or something and discovered this Dacor microwave was manufactured by Sharp, and nothing was obviously broken. I had another Sharp microwave in a previous house and I had numerous repairs with it. So I decided to do some research and it turns out Sharp has one of the worst repair histories according to Consumer Reports, and I can vouch for that. When I bought the unit I didn't know I was getting a Sharp manufactured product. I did not invest any more money in the DACOR/Sharp microwave and decided to replace it with a Panasonic. It is quiet and it works, but I miss my perfect popcorn.
