Author's Review
Well , I purchased this Grill about 5 years ago, and today is the 8 or 9 th time that I have half way dissembled it to repair, clean and to get it ready for what is probably the last season of operation. Based on the cost $ 3000. That is about 500 bucks a year for this grill. To be disappointed is to say the least.
This unit was suppose to be a commercial style, which was built just as the popularity of the Macho outdoor grills started. I purchased it not to impress my neighbor, its just that we bbq about 10 months out of the year and since my Weber Genesis had to have it 3rd go around of flavorizer bars replaced, I figured that this grill would grill last my lifetime. NOT.
First to fritz out were the igniterss. The cheap units they use, the ceramic cracked and quit working. They sent out replacements at no charge with first year. (2 hours labor to change). The heavy porcelain grills started to rust and flake off the 2nd season. The 3rd season they were about 15% rust, but were still ok, after brushing each time. The 3rd season also required new ceramic igniters, $10 each $40.00 , the 4th season the grills have steadily been flaking off rusted steel, and today, I needed to change 2 igniters and the grills will not last this season. They are about 60% rusted through.
I called to get a price on them and they are only $85 each! Well there are 6 of them, so with shipping that will be $570.00 That just seems a little too high for cost per year usage!!!
I also need a new chip burner that has completely rusted through. This is the one that only heats the wood chips. The other ones seemed to be ok, after their usual cleaning. This burner was only 28 dollars so, parts this year will be around $ 575.00
The remainder of the unit will clean up, but I will decide if someone elses grill will last any longer with weekly use. So for the money, its ok, as long as you figure you are going to replace the grills and now the igniters have been made to use a 9v battery. But no retrofit is available; I think I will rig something up the next time I have to replace them.
All in all, for 3K I would expect better, but then that's my opinion.
Update: 01/08 What I finally cured the grate problem was to purchase some grates that fit a WOLF Charbroiler from a restaurant supply place. I had to trim them with a chop saw, but they are so much better and about 5 times heaver than the originals that also make better heat retention for awesome grill marks and cooking times!
