I wouldn't trade the Dyson for anything, it does what it advertises. I could vacuum daily and come up with enough hair to make another dog, the canister is that full when I'm finished. The area rugs and tile are completely clean when I am finished and the canister is full. I like having everything you need right on the vacuum. The wand is easy to use and extends far. One thing you have to be careful with on non-carpeted areas when using the wand is the unit will fly across the floor if you are stretching the hose out to clean. You will use the wand and attachment when cleaning stairs and this might be a little tricky if you have a lot of stairs as you will have to actually move the whole vacuum to one of the stairs at some point in your cleaning. The wand is long, but may not be long enough to reach all of your stairs, you will still be satisfied with the cleaning job, although it's a little harder to handle on the stairs if you have to hold the vacuum in place and move the wand around. I have had this Dyson for over three years and the suction is the same as when I first powered it up. It is amazing. You can see so much hair and fine dirt in the canister, it's rather disgusting to see what comes up from your carpets. It's easy enough to empty the canister out and every so often totally clean out all of the cavities. With my two dogs shedding so much I do this a little more often. Their hair also gets wrapped around the brush and has to be pulled out or sometimes cut out, but this isn't too much trouble. I also use an aerosol can of air to blow out the dust in the unit to really clean it (outside of course). I previously owned a Phantom Fury which I thought was a really good vacuum, but this is way superior to that. Even though the Dyson is pricey, it is worth every penny to know that your carpet is getting that much dirt out of it. You can see how much cleaner it looks after vacuuming it. It also rolls rather easy on the carpet. For the power, I don't think it's any louder than other vacuums. You do need to be careful on small area rugs that are nylon as if they have pulls in them the vacuum will "eat" them. The cord on the vacuum is nice and long so you can get across a very large room or even into another room without stopping to unplug and relocate the plug. The tools on-board the unit are handy and include, the long crevice tool, upholstery tool & small-bristle brush. There is a separate bare-floor tool that comes with it, however, I never use it. I just used the unit to clean the bare floors, if you wanted to get under the beds that would come in handy, I have another vacuum (the Roomba) that I let go under the beds.
