Does what it says it does

Always hesitant when going cheap on computer equipment.  Finally got tired of dial up speeds and with the kids screaming to get online gaming, we decided to try out AT&T and get their basic service.

With AT&T offering a modem for $50 and needing another $10 for shipping, I figured I'd shop around for a compatable modem.  After some research, I found the D-link DSL-2320B. 

It comes with a USB port cable, Ethernet cable, CD, telephone cable and I thought it would have the phone jack splitter.  It did not say on the box it was contained, but I bought a repackaged product and figured the previous buyer took it or it does not come with one.

After I got my hands on the splitter jack (a few bucks at the local Wally world) I was ready to rock.  Plugged it in, followed the instructions, and wham.  Ready to rock. 

The front of the unit displays all you need to know and for laymen, green is good, red is bad.  Also, flashing lights mean the thing is working.  Power, status (DSL Traffic), DSL synchronization, Local Netwrok LED, USB LED, & Internet LED.

On the back the markings of where to plug what are well written and easy to know where to plug what.  This modem gives you the option to use a Ethernet cable (RJ-45) or a USB Cable to connect your PC or gaming system.  I use both at the same time.  One on my PC and the other on my Xbox 360. 

The manual was pretty well written and for this layman to get through it without calling for help says something.  I did have to call Microsoft to get my Xbox-live working, but once I got it fixed, I was a happy camper. 

The modem is password protected and the admin (Mom or Dad) can limit when the modem functions.  Since our kids are supposed to be sleeping between 12 midnight and 7am we have set the system to shut down during those times just in case the kids are going to do something they should not. 

It even has instructions for MAC users.

The remote log function also allows you to check what the kids are surfing and is a useful tool to keep the kiddies off sites they get around firewalls to see.

Over all, I think this is a very user friendly product and the computer illiterate can install it with very little hassle.
