I was accustomed to leaving my desktop PC running most of the time so that I could use its shared printer whenever I or my wife booted up our laptops. I considered purchasing a new printer with networking built in, especially an all-in-one unit, but I like my printer and I so rarely use my scanner that I only need a little help to work better in the wireless world. I've got an older printer but it *is* USB. This won't help you if you're still using an old printer port printer (although they did sell one like that too, I believe.)

It's a tiny little box, about the size of a cigarette pack, and it sits on top of my cable modem. Three cables - Ethernet network cable, USB printer cable and the power cord. It's plugged right into my Linksys WRT54G wireless router and I haven't had any problems with it since I installed it.

I saw in other reviews complaints about firmware upgrades being impossible. Perhaps on his version, I can't say, but I could upgrade mine if I needed too, and the firmware is easy to find on the D-Link website.

I had some bad experiences with D-Link wireless routers that just weren't powerful enough to reach across the house or robust enough to fend off the occasional attacker. So, I waited until this little guy was on sale with rebate before I bought it. Knowing what I know now, I'd have bought it right off. It was easy for me to set up and has quietly done its job since being installed.
