COMCAST CUSTOMERS: This modem IS NOT compatible w/ Comcast w/o reloading Firmware!
Date of Review: Dec 7, 2004
The Bottom Line: Everybody else's product IS compatible with Comcast without having to spend an hour attempting to (unsuccesfuly) reconfigure the modem's firmware! Get something- ANYTHING else. It is money well spent.
First, let me say that I LIKE D-Link's products alot. Thier router configured itself even before the CD tray retracted! And thier KVM Switch is on par with units costing hundreds more!
THIS Product is the offspring of a union with Satan, I am sure! In order to be compatible with Comcast (the largest cable-internet provider in the USA) the owner must download and install a Firmware Update that involves regongiguring the IP address, downloading, unziping, and attempting to install the update, and then should the download fail, boxing the bloody thing up and sending it back to D-Link.
Talking to the D-Link techie, I was led to believe that this was Comcast's fault. So I call Comcast... the Comcast techie actually COMPLETES MY SCENTENCE as I mention the make/model of modem that will not connect. Not only is this a "known issue", but is a WELL KNOWN issue.
As I said, I LIKE D-Link's stuff. Alot. But nothing is more off-putting than DENYING that a problem exists. If they would've been straight with me I'd be less frustrated. But playing like this is the first they have ever heard of it... VERY disappointing.
I can only imagine how it will preform when I get it back... I dream of that day...
According to Comcast, this model of modem is the only one to show compatibility issues. It just makes me what the folks at D-Link were thinking before releasing this P.O.S. on the market! Incompatible with the largest provider of cable internet!
Buy elsewhere. You can find more out if you download the drivers at http://www.dlink.com/products/support.asp?pid=323#manual . Read the PDF file. You will not believe it... I would'nt have.
