Excellent entry level camera

by   mdbrown ,  Jul 28, 2005
Pros: Compact, super battery life, pro-quality lens, very useable movie mode, focus assist lamp.
Cons: Small LCD, minimal accessories, no zoom when recording movies
The Bottom Line: Despite the small display the excellent mpg movie mode and pro quality lens make this a standout camera in this class.
Review: Too often products will try and do too much and generally be mediocre at everything including it's core function. Not so with this camera. For $190 you get a compact, versatile camera with features that belie it's price. At 4" wide by 2" high by 1 ...

by   dolli_face ,  Jan 25, 2006
Pros: Quick to learn, easy to use
Cons: The mannual was a little hard to read
The Bottom Line: This is a great little camera
Review: I’m not sure who he is, but his name is on my camera. Please note that this review is written for beginner user, not for someone who actually knows what a mega pixel is. This is my first digital camera, and I have to say that I didn’t ...

Incredible camera for the money, not typical of Sony!

by   billdawg ,  May 20, 2005
Pros: EVERYTHING! Sleek design, great stills, MPEGs, manual settings, button layout, LCD, Sony quality at ~$190!
Cons: Memory Sticks relatively expensive, zooming unchangeable during MPEG recording, documentation could be better organized.
The Bottom Line: I'd recommend the DSC-S40 to anyone looking for an excellent digital camera with plenty of room for growth while not breaking the bank.
Review: While it has long been my opinion that Sony makes electronics of above-average quality, it has also long been my opinion that much of the extra cost of Sony products vs. competitors is paying merely for the Sony brand name. This camera is an extreme ...

Pros: easy to carry;fun to use;perfect
Cons: zip
Review: I got this camera 9 days ago, and I love it! I have taken many pictures with it and most have come out perfect. I can fit it in my pocket, which is great. I also like the 3x optical zoom and built in lens cover. And taking pictures is a snap! Everyone ...

Great Camera

by   westd2 ,  Jul 24, 2006
Pros: Takes mp3 movies, Fits in pocket, Good battery life
Cons: Small LCD
Review: I bought this camera at Walmart for $126.00 without the CD that normally comes with it. I found it works with Windows XP but not with 2000 and below. The Sony site said I would have to pay for a new CD. After some Googling, I found the Sony Europe site ...

Photographic Adventures of a Real, Live Sony Cybershot DSC-S40 Owner (Wowwww!)

by   mrkstvns ,  Feb 14, 2006
Pros: Good pictures from a small, inexpensive, 4.1 megapixel camera
Cons: Proprietary memory stick, minor usability complaints
The Bottom Line: Sony Cybershot DSC-S40 isn't right for pros or enthusiasts, but for ordinary folks like you and me, IT'S A WINNER!
Review: One of the most attractive deals in digital cameras these days is the Sony Cybershot DSC-S40. It's an enticing package of good features, small size, and known brand, all rolled up with a ribbon of low price tags. I paid $130 for mine at Sears (no fuss, ...

Fast small camera with wider than average lens. Low-light images very poor.

by   tcchou71 ,  Apr 18, 2005
Pros: Fast autofocus. Sharp pictures. Great VGA movies. Semi-wide angle. Great AA battery life.
Cons: Low light photos are noisy, lack detail. Small screen font. Expensive memory sticks. Underpowered flash.
The Bottom Line: Small, yet takes AA batteries! Wider than average lens! VGA movies! Great battery life! But low-light photos are unusually bad.
Review: I was looking for a pocket-sized digicam with a wide angle lens (28mm equivalent) for landscapes and indoor photos. I also wanted something that took standard AA batteries. That turns out to be impossible. As of this date (January 2006) the only ...

Excellent Entry-Level Digicam

by   rarshowhost ,  Mar 11, 2006
Pros: Easy to operate, minimal delay, many controls.
Cons: Pictures too dark @ default, LCD looks better than on computer, noisy lowlight.
The Bottom Line: Get this camera if you're on a budget and want something easy to use.
Review: I have the privilege of using many cameras in my line of work. From entry-level cameras such as this one to digital SLR cameras and "news cameras" ($15,000+). I'll tell you from the outset that for the money this camera is smokin'! The Sony DSC-S40 ...

Sony Cyber Shot 4.1 MP, Good Price for a Good Camera

by   chris489 ,  Apr 10, 2007
Pros: Small, good pictures with the right techniques
Cons: Had some problems with action shots
The Bottom Line: Inexpensive, great for beginners and intermediates. Video mode was surprisingly useful, and with some standard photo tips one can capture quality shots.
Review: This camera is a relatively good buy for an everyday user. Got this as a Christmas gift and use it quite frequently. At first I wasn't so sure about the quality of pictures, however with some practice and some picture taking techniques this changed. ...
