Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-M1 Digital Camera DSCM1 - Stylish and Horrible

Date of Review:  Sep 19, 2005
The Bottom Line: I cannot recommend the Sony DSCM1, unless you have to have a gizmo that is so unusual. The camera does not produce as good image...
Review: After I got my Sony DSC-M1 (DSCM1), I took it out the box and looked at it for about a minute, marveling its strange design. The camera/camcorder promises the best of both worlds: 5-Megapixel digital still pictures and MPEG4 videos with stereo sound...

Looks sharp, but that's about it. Testing in Iraq now...

Date of Review:  Aug 11, 2005
The Bottom Line: Bad design, and only the most basic options included for $500. There are many, many other better cameras out there.
Review: I bought this camera to replace my Sony DSC-S50, which was an OUTSTANDING 2.1 megapixel digital that served me faithfully since 1998. When I broke it (dropping a camera is NEVER good) while taking pictures on my tour of duty in Iraq, I wanted to...

Expensive camera that doubles as a camcorder.

Date of Review:  Jan 11, 2005
The Bottom Line: If you want a camera that doubles as a real camcorder, buy it. If you just want a digital camera, do not spend money on this pricey camera
Review: Sony introduces DSC-M1 and it is quite a big step from the DSC-T1 that I purchased not too long ago. After returning the DSC-T1 I bought the DSC-M1 for approximately $100 more but I'm quite satisfied because this camera has quite a few improvements...

Terrible picture quality, awkward design

Date of Review:  Oct 5, 2005
The Bottom Line: Dont buy the M1 or M2, the immages are awful. Take the Sanyo C5 for a test drive and you will be completely in awe of it :)
Review: I purchased the M1 to function as a digital camera and for some limted movie making. As the only hybrid available at the time it was an expensive but at least on paper a worthwhile option. So i buy the expensive pro duo memory stick and proceed to...

Amazing Camera from Sony

Date of Review:  Jun 15, 2005
The Bottom Line: If you want a digital camera that is a great allrounder and maybe not the expert in a single disciplin then this Sony might be the one for you.
Review: I decided on this Sony model for one reason: it can do both - pictures and videos and that in a decent quality. So far I am still in the learning state on how to use this camera to get the full benefits of it but I'm impressed about what all that...

Nice Idea - but Awkward to hold

Date of Review:  Apr 12, 2005
Review: Bought this for the same reason as others (dual purpose). I found out quickly though, that when open, the camera is unbalanced (weight to tha left) and that I now had to use my thumb to operate the shutter rather than my index finger.

In...

Not quite ready for primetime

Date of Review:  Jan 12, 2005
Review: Great idea, medium execution.

The camera takes good, clear pictures in plenty of light. The biggest problem I have found with it is shake.
I have tried different ways of holding the M1 but consistently miss shots because of camera...

Great all-rounder

Date of Review:  Dec 7, 2004
The Bottom Line: Great all-rounder for those that want a good digital still camera with good quality video.
Review: I've just bought one of these (I'm in the UK but ordered it from B&H in the USA). I am very pleased. Does what it says. The camera is high standard and MPEG4 compression seems very clear. I've watched sample videos on my TV and they are excellent...

Great Camera and a Happy Wife.

Date of Review:  Dec 12, 2005
The Bottom Line: I recommend this camera. I open the camera, point it and press either the photo or video button. Press mode to review. That's it! Great camera.
Review: My wife wanted a smaller camera than the Sony F707 and she wanted to be able to shoot movies. I found the DSC-M1 that could fit the bill. It is definitely what she wanted. Small, cosmopolitan and slick. It shoots pictures with ease. I must mention...
