Looks Nice on the Counter But Makes HORRIBLE Coffee
Date of Review: Jul 23, 2009
The Bottom Line: Less than optimal coffee maker; only saving grace is the functioning timer and thermal carafe.
I purchased this coffee maker on a panicked Sunday when my tried and true coffee pot we had received as a wedding gift failed to turn on. I assumed that all carafe pots were the same. Wrong Wrong Wrong. Typically I subscribe to the less features the better mantra, so was pleased with the simplicity of this coffee maker. It allows me to program the coffee to be ready when I get up at 4:15 and stay warm and fresh for my husband who greets the day around 7:00. Too bad there are no test trials in the house-ware departments. I would have learned that there is a very annoying alarm that goes off that sounds just like my pager when the brew is completed (does not make friends with sleeping husbands). The pot pours EXTREMELY slowly which is problem for Java addicts like me. The water reservoir is also very difficult to fill. The water never gets quite hot enough for a strong pot of Jo, so I add twice the amount of grounds. There is an automatic cleaning mode that makes it impossible to make a new pot of coffee until you have run the clean cycle - which is not appreciated if it occurs mid week when really all I want is a fresh up of coffee. The pause and serve function doesn't work well which results in coffee all over my counter top. I love the thermal carafe function, but there are MUCH better coffee pots on the market.
