Worked fine for about 9 months
Date of Review: Mar 8, 2008
The Bottom Line: If you are patient buy one and if it doesn't work well exchange it. You can always get it fixed when it breaks on the generous 3 year warranty.
We bought this toaster because of its 3 year warranty, high power for a 4 slice, dual controls and previous good experience with Cuisinart products. Also we were tired of buying toasters every year or so. We have been through the gamut of dirt cheap to higher end. The toaster itself is quite good looking if you have other stainless appliances and it does not take a lot of place on the counter. The dual controls are a bonus.
After about 9 months the bagel button got stuck on the right side and did not work at all on the left. Then the inside of the 3rd slot started only toasting on one side. Finally the controls got really finicky, either burning the toast or barely warming the bread.
So this one is going in for warranty repair. So much for toasters that can last more than 1 year.
As far back as I can remember my parents had an old Sunbeam automatic (it lowered the toast). They must have bought this in the late 1950's or early 1960's and it made consistently good toast either cold or repeatedly right up until about 1979 when it finally bit the dust. In the 1980s I bought one of the last models but it never made good toast and it bit the dust after a year.
I am really wondering why we can't seem to get a decent toaster any more.
So I really don't know if we keep this or find something that is reasonably durable. And from what I can tell from reviews there does not seem to be any correspondence between price, quality and durability.
