Crosley CR49 Turntable

This is a nice, compact unit and I think the mechanism is the same exact one in many other Crosley Models. It does not, however, have the auto arm return feature that some other models have, but it stops automatically at the end of the record and you just lift up the arm and return it. Starting it, you just lift up the arm and move it to the right, you hear a "click" and the table starts turning. It is made in China though Crosley is a U.S. based company. Sure, A "Sony" is better, but you won't find it in this style package. The sound is not bad for what it is, it has stereo speakers, 1 on each side. There is no control for separation, but there is one (1) Knob for treble/bass. It comes with a 45 rpm adapter. The User manual that comes with this is very short, and you have to call the company to get a replacement needle.- as I just got my unit, I don't know how long they last. I use this to test my 45 rpm juke box records for rating, scratches, etc and to test new ones to see if I want them in my juke box. I also use it to test 33 1/3 acquired albums for condition. For this being a totally portable unit, the sound is not bad and probably better than the 50's Original! If you want really good sound, and can get away from the portability, get a name brand turn table and hook it up to your Stereo System- this is for people who want a self contained unit that sounds ok, but not like a turn table going through a home system. It is simple to use and for my purposes, I like it! It would be great for someone who needs a vinyl player that travels or wants to move it around to different locations.
