The Creatively Cheap MP3 player
Date of Review: Dec 7, 2007
The Bottom Line: Save your money and get an ipod because this mp3 player will break easy.
For Christmas of 2006, right after this mp3 player came out, my girlfriend decided to buy me one for christmas as well as one for her self. It was my first product from Creative and didn't know what to expect because previously I owned 3 ipods.
Although I was a loyal ipod owner, the prices were just too expensive for me and I wanted something cheaper in cost that would be compact with a nice colorful screen. Wow, the Creativie Zen V Plus 2gb was just what I wanted.
When I opened it up, I noticed how small it was. It was smaller than what I pictured it to be. Now, small was good but when you have big hands like me, you'll often catch yourself dropping small things. The MP3 player was very easy to set up and use. I didn't read the directions and I just installed the program that came with it. In no time, I had the mp3 player loaded with songs and pictures.
The sound produced was very good, it produced better sound than my ipod did (with the same ear buds used on both mp3 players). The mp3 player fit nicely in my pocket and was very compact and durable. I did end up buying a silicone case for it on ebay ($5) to protect it incase I dropped it, which indeed happen several times. It had all the features you needed from an mp3 player and was nice... while it lasted... After 5 months of using the mp3 player strictly for when I was at the gym, I was searching my mp3 player for a particular file and as I was moving the joy stick, the joy stick just broke. I wasn't even putting much force on it.
So now, all I can say is that while it lasted, it was definitely an excellent mp3 player. I am however disappointed because my ipods lasted well over a year to two years, until I gave them away to family members or sold them for quick cash on craigslist. Overall, I am disappointed with the build of the Creative Zen V Plus because it broke after 5 months of non-aggressive use. The people at Creative didn't even offer to replace it so I was disappointed with their service as well, but you can't really blame them because putting myself in their situation, I would assume it would be the result of human error (but in my case, it just broke).
Please save up your money and purchase an Ipod or a Zune, the Creative Zen V Plus isn't worth the savings and will not hold up as long as an ipod or a Zune.
