I Love This Thing!
Date of Review: Feb 22, 2006
The Bottom Line: Its a great buy for anyone that loves there music!
I purchased the Creative Zen Micro about four months ago and I have to say...I Love It! The sound is great! The battery life is great! The size is nice! The controls are simple! The various features are great as well!
The 6GB Zen Micro is a great player. The sound is great. Most of my music on my player is WMA and they sound crisp and very clean. No funny sounding glitches here! The mp3 files sound great as well, but sound funny depending on where I got the file. But the sound is good when it comes down to it.
Battery life is said to be 12 hours. But I think it varies from how loud the volume is and how long the backlight is on. I have my volume all the way up and my backlight on for only a few seconds when I touch it. So my entire battery life would be around 8 hours. Which is pretty dang good! And it is rechargeable from the USB cable which is a nice feature. If you don't like to buy batteries. It takes about 4 hours to fully recharge when the battery is dead. Which I love about this player! Battery life is no an issue if use the player for small amounts of time and really is no issue if you use the player for long periods of time.
The way the menus are set up for the player are great. Its up and down not left to right like other players. Everything is organized by: Artist, Album, Playlist, Genres, and play times. Other options are set up this way in the player and is very easy to use.
Controls are fun and work quite well. There are six buttons. Well they are not buttons but a touch pad. No clicking buttons. The pad has six controls and they are: Play/Pause, Next, Last, Select/Scroll, Back, and Drop Menu. They work like any player but have some unique features. The Next and Last can be touched and held to Rewind and Forward through a track. It works quite well but it can go to fast. The Select/Scroll is fun. In the middle of the touch part of it is to Select something within the player like song, artist, album, and ect. The Scroll part of the control it cool because you just use your finger or thumb to move up and down through the options in the player while still touching it. It just goes up and down because there is no left and right options in the player which is nice because you could get lost in the player options. The Back touch option just takes you back to the previous menu you were looking at like the album tracks, album, and artists. This is a great feature! The Drop Menu control is nice to have. You can view all track of an artist, set volume, add to playlist, and search for a track. I love this feature because I can view all the tracks of an artist rather than the albums.
The other extras on the player are the Organizer, Voice Recorder, and FM radio tuner. The organizer sounds great, but I have never used it. But you can keep contacts, notes, and calender information on it. I have not used it but its nice to know I have that option. The FM radio tuner is awesome. It can pick up radio stations very well. The autoscan is nice on picking up stations and then putting it on a preset number. There are 32 presets. Which is more than enough. The voice recorder is a fun feature to record memos to yourself and recording a meeting or something of the kind. I use it to record music from concerts. I have to say its one on my favorite features on this player.
This is a great player that I would buy and just give away to someone. The size is very nice and good looking. The sound is great overall depending on what type of music files you have, but im sure your music files sound good! Battery life is really good as well no matter how long you use it. The controls are easy and simple to use. I love this player and hope you will like it to!
