Author's Review

Crash Bandicoot Warped is a comical, wacky, crazy, unique game! You can do so many things (tell ya later) that you can find in other games separately! AND one of the best things is that it hardly has any violence!

Hmmmm - What's the Game All About?
You play as Crash Bandicoot, the male bandicoot, or Coco Bandicoot, the female bandicoot. YOU DON'T CHOOSE YOUR CHARACTER: instead, each level will TELL you to use either Crash or Coco. Example: In Level one (called "Toad Village") you can only play as Crash. Although in Level five ("Making Waves") you can only play as Coco.

Okay, enough of that. Here's the real story:

Dr. Neo Cortex, that greedy dwarf with a huge head and a brown beard, is the villain! He needs (or should I say, "WANTS") to steal all the crystals, gems and relics in history - from the present, stretched way back to the Medieval times. And, to do that, he's not alone. He's got five sidekicks and this powerful, wooden, "Tiki-Tiki" style mask called Uka-uka with him.

Dr. N. Trophy (one of his sidekicks), a blue-faced wicked scientist, invented a time machine called the "Time Twister". So, Dr. Neo Cortex and his evil gang travel back to time and try to steal the crystals.

BUT...
Here come the heroes: Crash and Coco bandicoot!

A little thought
I've noticed some people think Crash is a dog. Crash is NOT A DOG! He's a bandicoot :) Here's a link about bandicoots that you should visit: http://home.mira.net/~areadman/bandi.htm

Stuff to know about Levels
Crash Bandicoot: Warped has 30 LEVELS FOR YOU TO PLAY IN! You start in the middle of 5 warp chambers. These chambers each have a different time period, and different places to play in (medieval, arabian cities, under water). The game starts with only one chamber open. The others are "locked" by lines of electricity. When you finish the 5 levels, an extra button pops out: THIS IS THE LEVEL WHERE YOU HAVE TO DEFEAT THE BOSS! You have to defeat the boss. When you do, you get a super power (Double jump, fruit bazooka) and the next warp chamber is now unlocked!

IN A WARP CHAMBER, you have to use Crash to step on one of five buttons. THESE five buttons say the numbers 1 - 5. The number 1 means level one, number 2 means level two...you get the idea. ONCE you stepped on a button, a big globe will appear showing you a piece of what that place looks like. It will also show the name of the level (ex. "Tomb Time"), and a picture of what character you'll be using. To play that level, just jump onto the globe, and you will get sucked in.

NOW this is the best part: you don't just run around! You can swim underwater, race a motorcycle, fly in a blimp and other things! There are boxes for you to break apart (brown ones), and some should be left alone (Nitro, TNT). There are apples laid around each level. 100 apples = 1 extra life. Also, there's hardly any violence because you spin away enemies! You don't shoot them with a gun, although there is a fruit bazooka...but as I said...it's a FRUIT bazooka!

You play in a can't-explore-environment, where you go in a certain direction, defeating enemies on the way, and finally reaching the end. A level is like a wide street that you have to run in! It's a lot like Mario, and it's definitely NOT Spyro the Dragon.

My favorite stage is the 2nd stage - you use Coco and ride around in a tiger cub.

Your goal in every level is to gather a purple crystal. And another thing that makes it so challenging: if you get to destroy every box, you can get the white gem. I'm telling you...destroying every box isn't as easy as you think! Some are hard to reach, and some levels (like when the Dinosaur is chasing you), you just don't have the time. AND STILL another feature is - after you finish a level, you can play it all over again...this time, racing against the clock! It will show how many minutes and seconds you should take in order to win a relic.

ENEMIES
This is a challenging game. In the medieval period, you might find wizards, giants, and giant frogs. For Arabia - meet the snake, Aladdin wannabes (meaning guys on flying carpets), and scorpions. And underwater - beware the dreaded shark and the eel.

CONTROLS
The controls here are really simple...but can do lots of moves! As I said, there are super powers that you get when you defeat a boss. But I will only talk about the basic controls, okay? Here are the basic moves:

Directional pad - to go forward, left, right, and backward.

X - jump
O - crouch
square - Spin (for spinning away enemies and breaking boxes apart)
triangle - shows the status

ANOTHER PLUS: If you have a Dual Shock controller, you can use the "Analog" joysticks! It also vibrates!

GRAPHICS & SOUND
Graphics in Crash Bandicoot Warped are stunning. They're smooth, 3D and wacky! Everything - the characters, cutscenes and background - is brilliantly colored.

The sound is great, it's got the essence of the time period. If you're in an arabian city, you will hear the flute that charms snakes.

So....
Overall, if you're a big fan of Mario, and like wacky games...You MUST GE T Crash Bandicoot: Warped.
