Good Cool Mist Humidifier for Children's room

We purchased two Crane Penguin Humidifiers this past fall for our children's bedrooms. Several on-line stores occasionally run a B1G1 free on various Crane products. We've been pleased with its ability to keep the humidity levels up during the winter. The humidifier runs cool mist so we do not have to worry about the risk of steam or anyone getting burned. The bottom (white part of the penguin) is the motor. The clear colored plastic body holds the gallon of water.

Some nice things I like about this humidifier: You can turn the head of the penguin and direct the mist in the direction you want. It is quiet and does not bother the children when they sleep. The humidifier has a knob that adjusts the level of humidity. I usually run it on a lower setting so you do not get condensation or water dripping off the top. However you can turn it up for very high humidity where you can see the mist if you want. This is a nice feature if a child has a cough.

You must use distilled water with this product otherwise you will have a cloud of fine white dust everywhere. I also clean the unit with distilled vinegar and water solution once a week. The humidifier's base is easy to clean. Also with the white plastic on the bottom and the clear colored plastic body you can see if you need to clean it.

The problems I have with this product are: it can be a little messy when you refill the tank and place it back on the stand. Refill knob can be difficult to open.

When you go to refill the humidifier, you turn the body of the penguin upside down. Then twist off the refill cap (this can take some strength to turn and occasionally sticks). You pour the gallon of distilled water in while you hold the penguin upside down. You put the cap back on and then turn the penguin right side up and fit it on the base. It can be awkward to fit the body into the base. Once in awhile I will have a small amount of water drip out as I do this. I would recommend refilling the humidifier over a tub or sink. Once the body is completely in place, I have never found a problem with leaking.

The Crane Humidifier is a smaller cool mist unit and is good for a single room, like a child's bedroom or play area. I am glad we purchased two and have them running almost constantly in the winter. I would recommend this product for a child’s bedroom or single room use.
