Cute, but has problems

This humidifier is really cute, but it has a terrible automatic shut off to it. You basically fill the basin (head) with water and then place it on the base. Turn it on and pick the level of humidity you want. Real easy. Nope. Half the time, the humidifier just turns off (the light stays green and it keeps making noise, but no water coming out). In the morning, I will go in to my son's room and find the water level hasn't changed. When I pick up the base, it is full of water. That means the automatic shut off has stopped it. I read on here how people just take the basin to the sink to refill it or clean it, but I always have to take the base too - since it is full of water. I have to empty the base so the automatic shut off can reset.
This humidifier has to be cleaned every few days. I add a little bleach to the basin with water and swish it around. I wipe the base with vinegar. But it takes the basin/head forever to dry out completely (like if I want to store it).
It's not worth the hassle of returning these (I have 2) - but they can be a pain.
I think I paid $30 for these with coupons at bed bath and beyond. I wouldn't pay more than that. Maybe mine are the only ones that are such a problem. When they work - they really do moisten the air.
