Author's Review
I don't drink all that much, as a rule, but I do have a few favorite beverages for which I will freely admit having more than a weakness. I have a passion for desert-dry vodka martinis, good Italian grappa, certain types of champagne, and good brandy. My favorite in this category is Courvoisier VSOP. I always understood the VSOP to stand for Very Special Old Port, but apparently I was mistaken.
This is a special drink, intended to be sipped and savored, warmed in a snifter held between the hands and swirled to bring out its woody, smoky aroma. That aroma is half the appeal of the drink. It is a heady, wonderful scent, and leads the drinker to anticipate that first warming swallow.
The flavor is rich and tawny, with overtones of smoke and fruit. It is a taste that screams,"Cigar! Cigar!", which, one would suppose, is why brandy and cigars have been an inseparable combination for such a long, long time.
Unfortunately, I have a tendency to over-indulge in past-times that I enjoy, so I always end up drinking more Courvoisier than I should, but it is such a pleasant feeling, and the circumstances are usually so pleasant, that I think I could be forgiven this one fault.
