Airbrushed Perfection with Coty Airspun Face Powder

Mascara is the most needed item in my arsenal of products, but Coty Airspun Face Powder is my favorite item. I discovered the virtues a few years ago after seeing it featured as a "beauty steal" in some magazine. Of course primarily noted, the face powder was great, but also mentioned was the presence of a fabulous scent. Really, that's all I needed. Actually, the image of the box of powder was also a factor.

Ok, scent and packaging? What's that got to do with performance? You're right, not a thing! However, the scented powder and packaging are truly exceptional.

I find this item at my local drugstores, or I buy it at drugstore.com. Under $7.00 for 2.3 oz. The box lasts(me)forever. Forever meaning, more than a year, and less than 3 years. You might say Gross! You're forgetting to practice good hygiene. Not to worry, here's the skinny:

I VERY CAREFULLY transfer a small amount to a clean, dry, plastic, screw top container. Smaller than the Coty box, large enough to dip my makeup brush. I do this outside, because there exists the potential for disaster. (I can tell you this from experience; clean up is not easy) I would really suggest doing something similar. Once you've removed the plastic film covering the product, this will really get messy. The top of the box pulls up and kind of creates a vacuum --- each time you use it, powder might fly all over.

The gorgeous art worthy box remains displayed with my perfume bottles. It's very art deco and the image you see with this review doesn't do it justice.

The powder is microfine. Very similar to a mineral powder, but Coty Airspun seems more dense. I dislike foundation and apply this instead using a Kabuki style brush, dipped and tapped (sound familiar Barescentual users?)then swirled onto my face.

It feels so soft as I apply it to my face, like velvet or silk. It's incredibly light weight, and transforms my skin into a canvas of airbrushed perfection. It manages to provide light to medium coverage without looking heavy, dry, cakey, or unnatural.

Pores? They're history with this blanket of heavenly scented powder. I use translucent for my very light ivory complexion and my skin is normal to oily (emphasis on oily).

After I've completed my routine, adding a sweep of mineral blush, pencil eyeliner, and a little powder shadow, I follow up with a light layer of Coty Airspun using a big fluffy brush. Mascara is applied last. Coty Airspun provides a great foundation to apply the rest of your makeup, then sets it beautifully.

Wears really well throughout the day. Keeps oiliness at bay, but doesn't dry. Doesn't streak, fade or discolor. Doesn't pool or accumalate around your nose. Lasts all day, and if I'm going back out at night, I just refresh my face with a sweep of Airspun from the large fluffy brush.

I think Coty has reduced the number of shades available, and I believe currently (at least translucent) is scented with Coty's fragrance L'Aimant. Whatever the origin, the scent is a soft, powdery floral.

I've tried Bare Escentuals mineral foundation, and although I liked the look, it wasn't right for my oilier skin. I like Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil, and Coty Airspun powder is kind of like the best combination of both. (scroll down is you want to see the ingredients)

I love this product and would be lost if Coty discontinues it!
