The most affordable labeling system
Date of Review: Aug 11, 2004
The Bottom Line: It's a good affordable labeling system.
I've used Brother at my office for a while, then got QX50 when the machine was on sale at OfficeMax for $20 (I think) about 2 years ago. And I like it.
Brother has better labels (more color, size, etc), and they use laminated plastic kind that's supposed to last longer. However, to peel the backing off the sticker was a pain - they include a little plastic tool, but I lost in the first day (it didn't help much anyway). Also, their labels will cost you about $15 and up (more if you want non-white).
Dymo's included label is paper kind. It will not cut clean no matter what. There is nothing wrong with the blade as it will cut the plastic labels cleanly. The biggest draw for me was the fact that you could easily get the labels for $5-6 at Target or Office Depot. They have 3 pack (paper or 1 white plastic, 1 metallic silver plastic & 1 paper) for $15.99 - the prices about the same every where. Also their backing has a slit in the middle that you could peel off "VERY" easily with your fingernails.
You should be able to find QX50 for $30 every where, and $25 at buy.com. I'm about to buy one for my office.
** The font on Dymo looks little jagged compared to Brother's, but it's a small price to pay for vastly more affordable label tapes.
