It's not often you can find a WONDERFUL magazine, let alone a teen magazine. Well, look no further. Despite its name, Cosmogirl is nothing like Cosmopolitan. It does not project the idea that women have to have sex to be sexy. In fact, it encourages its readers to be themselves. You can find wonderful self-esteem boosting articles such as how to find happiness, make new friends for shy girls and reduce stress. There are also great workout programs for health-conscious girls but the magazine doesn't promote dieting and other eating problems. In a recent fashion spread, the model was actually plus-sized! She was beautiful and had actual meat on her bones. Heck, you could tell she had some fat on her thighs!
This magazine is not all about fashion and beauty although they do have some articles about it, this is after all a teen magazine. It also has very deep articles that relate to difficul issues such as suicide, eating disorders, cutting and others. There are also stories sent in by girls telling an amazing event they have lived in their lives. It is very interesting to read about what other girls in the country do with their lives.
The happiness articles are also wonderful. They teach the readers that they can be happy just by changing their attitude instead of moping about.
There are also music reviews. The movie reviews are not something to rely on though. They tend to focus on the most publicized movies instead of enlightening us on the more independant ones. The celebrity coverage is just enough so that you know a little what's going on but not so that you can't find anything else of interest in the magazine. Usually, the most you'll see of this is the cover story with an interview with the celebrity and a few music reviews by an MTV DJ.
I must say that this 6-year old teen magazine really is one of the best you can find. If you are considering buying this magazine for your own teenage daughter, it is one of the wisest buys you can make. Others can be so fluffy but this one has actual content!
