Overall quite pleased
Date of Review: Oct 12, 2005
The Bottom Line: Even with my peeves I still like this seat. The safety issue of being able to climb out is my biggest concern. Normal sized children probably stay in better.
We needed another car seat because the ones my son had used were just getting too out of date. High back is great and adds comfort for several years. I like the armrest feature and despite the complaints listed here I have had no problems with it in nearly two years. It is nice to have a place for her to rest her head rather than the drooping you get with a seat without the front armrest. It can be a bit difficult to get tightly secured into the seat and if you don't, it will tip over on a hard turn if it is installed in a "captain's chair" in a van. Only used the LATCH system once, on my parents new car, and it was terrific. I just wish it worked on older cars too. My daughter has recently figured out how to lower the plastic strap slide which goes over the chest area and she is able to pull her arms through and stand up in the seat. She is a small two year old so it doesn't take much for her to squeeze through. A
5-point restraint system would be much better but difficult to design with the armrest. I really liked the look of this seat and the release button is much easier to press than the older seats which had you press and pull up at the same time. The strap buckling area is easy to get access to for a really thorough cleaning so gunk doesn't cake up and make securing the child difficult like the older seats. I wish the straps could be completely removed for easier cleaning. The fabric seat cover removes well but when my daughter threw up on the seat and I couldn't remove the straps for cleaning I had to get creative. Overall we have been happy with it and my daughter loves it.
