by   jo.com ,  Aug 6, 2001
Pros: Reader friendly, comprehensive, great index.
Cons: You have to subscribe to access their website.
The Bottom Line: I really utilize this magazine for buying advise. It means going to the library so I use it as a supplement after epinions.
Review: We are Consumer Reports fans. In the house from which we moved I had a lot of space and kept all of my Consumer Reports on a shelf! We no longer subscribe but did for many, many years. I believe that any large purchase we have made (even not...

1936: Consumer Reports Appeared, 1999: Epinions Tops It

by   charles ,  Oct 28, 2000
Pros: Lots of product testing and review; Attempts to stay objective by requesting tax-deductible contributions; Reviews and test you can use
Cons: Depends on individuals' contributions (Is objectivity in question?)
Review: Way before a bunch of guys decided to come up with consumer-driven, consumer-monitored, and consumer-written reviews on epinions, I used to go to Consumer Reports for all kinds of information on products and services. I will be the first one to...

Do Not Buy It or Try It until you read Consumer Reports!

by   agingpeacock ,  Oct 31, 2001
Pros: Objective (product reviews), concise, detailed criteria for their ratings
Cons: Premium Subscription Rates, web site charges, long gaps between product reviews
The Bottom Line: Objective, informative but detailed reviews of a wide spectrum of goods and services. Magazine has made significant contributions in consumer awareness and safety!
Review: Consumer Reports has save me from making some big mistakes when it comes to major and minor purchases! I’m an impulsive consumer who has to have it yesterday. When I let impulsivity rule my head, I usually end up regretting my buying decision. When I was...

Consumer Reports Magazine

by   bj1949 ,  Nov 4, 2007
Pros: My Son had memorized the specs from the Buyers Guide, which helped me immensely!
Cons: See my remarks above about what's covered in the magazine subscription.
The Bottom Line: I can't tell you how many time the product comparisons have helped me decide which specific brand and model of a product to purchase!
Review: I couldn't believe someone put a 1 star rating on Consumer Reports Magazine, related to vehicle purchases! If you buy the magazine subscription through Consumer Reports Union, you also get a free Annual Buyers Guide, which is like getting a one year's ...

Buy This Before You Buy That -- Consumer Reports magazine

by   wivabef ,  Jun 5, 2000
Pros: No product advertising, truly written for the consumer's benefit
Cons: They do have a few too many pages of self-promotion
The Bottom Line: Consumer Reports empowers the consumer, encouraging us to spend our money in a savvy manner. And, because it's a non-profit, your subscription is quasi-tax deductible. Cool.
Review: I work at a radio station, paying frequent visits to the news department. There, I skim through press releases because I find them amusingly biased. For example, it would not be unlikely to find some press release talking about how important their...
