Author's Review
I'm not really a coin collector -- sometimes I save a few coins of interest from pocket change, like one of each of the state quarters, and I also have a set of Whitman penny folders I've had since I was a kid (and sometimes try to fill a few more of the empty holes in them).
However, I enjoy reading Coin World whenever I can borrow it from somebody who subscribes to it (or read it at the public library). There are a lot of changes going on to our coins and currency these days -- the state quarters, the new dollar coin, the redesign of the paper money -- and I find it interesting to keep up with what's happening, why it happened, and what's about to happen. Coin World provides the best coverage of these things.
Due to my perusal of Coin World, I knew about some of the recent changes well before most of the public; while others were surprised when the first "new $20 bill", state quarter, or golden dollar showed up in their change, I was awaiting them.
Coin World also has interesting editorials, guest editorials, and letters to the editor, giving an outsider like me some idea of what issues are arousing passions within the coin collecting community.
Furthermore, they publish a complete price guide to U.S. coins, in installments repeating every few weeks, so I can have some idea whether the handful of interesting coins I've pulled from change are actually worth something, as well as knowing what dates I wish would turn up (but probably never will).
To anyone who's curious about the history behind our money, and what ways it's likely to change in the future, Coin World is a very interesting read.
