Good way to prepare for the Anatomy boards

As you've either already learned or are about to find out, anatomy is now "clinically oriented". That means, for exam purposes, it's no longer sufficient to know that the thyrocervical trunk has 4 branches (or whatever) and that the pancreas "gives tail to the spleen and gives head to the duodenum." Now you have to be able to answer questions like: "If Joe Bob, age 22, went to Colorado to go skiing with his fiancee, and if he fell off the ski lift and his ski pole jammed through his skull 3 cm superior to his left orbit, which artery is most likely damaged?"

Moore's book, Clinically Oriented Anatomy, will help prepare you for such questions. It is not an atlas like Netter, but rather a textbook, that covers each organ system or region (like lower extremities), giving an overview of the anatomy and physiology, and gives examples of clinical disease that affect each organ. This is important, because this is the stuff that you're going to be tested on! For instance, in discussing the eye, the book will explain about the blood supply to the sclera, and the specifics of the ciliary apparatus and yada yada yada, but what's important is, "What will be the defect in a patient with a 4th nerve palsy?"

The book is rather large, but it reads fairly quickly, and if you read it all (pace yourself), you'll ace the anatomy boards and you'll be prepared for higher level classes like physical diagnosis or problem-based learning.
