Pros:  covers everything a Steely Dan fan wants to hear

Cons:  The Live cut of Bodhisattva - not that good.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

We have a 5 disc player mainly for this. I must have my Steely Dan. Citzen Steely Dan covers everything up to the newest release Two Against Nature.

Starting with the first songs on disc one, the jazz influence rings through strong. The music, arrangement and lyrics are flawless. Walter Becker and Donald Fagan had the cream of the crop for studio musicians playing with them throughout their history. It shows through on all the songs.

Steely Dan has a song that fits every mood. Upbeat, rocking songs such as Reelin' In The Years and Black Friday will keep a person moving. Mellow, introspective songs like Any World (That I'm Welcome To), Any Major Dude Will Tell You and the classic Deacon Blues will wash over you.

There are bonus tracks of FM, a demo of Everyone's Gone To The Movies and a live track of Bodhisattva. I am not a huge fan of that live track. Facts are facts and Steely Dan was not a good band live.

If you are a fan and want to complete your Steely Dan collection, this does it in one step. If you aren't a fan and want to see what the fuss is about, start with Can't Buy a Thrill.
