World Combat League - Season 1 - 2008 ★ ☆
The WCL {World Combat League} was started in 2007 / 2008 by Mr. Chuck Norris. The WCL has been a dream of Mr. Norriss for the past thirty years. Some people enjoy golf, some baseball and others like Mr. Norris practice and enjoy Martial Arts. So wouldnt it make sense to have a martial arts league with teams from across the United States that compete on the weekends? Such as the Miami Force Verses the Los Angeles Stars or the New York Clash Vs. the Denver Fury
It sounds like a team sport because it is. Each team consists of five male fighters and one female fighter. So it is a six verses six match. Each fighter engages their opponent for an all out three minute round. After all six fighters have finished their first three minute round there is a half time and they do it one more time. So each fighter ends up fighting two, three minute rounds. At the end the points are tallied up and the team with the most points wins. It is scored by three judges in much the same manner as most MMA matches. In fact youll see some popular MMA referees on the WCL showdowns. One that comes to mind is the UFC referee, Steve Mazzagatti. The ring is much different. It is a eighteen foot circle that is angled up at a 45 on the edges. It resembles a pie dish. Another major difference in the WCL is the pace of the fights. It is the fastest paced fights youll find anywhere. If the fighters are not throwing a strike, kick or block they will be docked a point by the referee for Passitivity. It is continuous sparring on steroids!

Conclusion
Mr. Norris enlisted some top notch coaches and directors to get this new sport off the ground. One of the main directors in the WCL is
Guy Mezger. Guy Mezger is a well known fighter and former champion in the MMA world. He was a top fighter in organizations such as the UFC {Ultimate Fighting Championship} & Pride. These coaches from around the country have put together some very formidable teams. I have seen a large variety of styles and fighters in the WCL. Ive noticed some fighters from the UFC as well as current and former Karate full contact and point champions. Also Kick boxing, boxing and Tae Kwon Do Champions. So there is quite a mixture of fighters and styles in the WCL. I think its the logical step forward in the rapidly growing sport of Mixed Martial Arts. Fortuity the sport is finally growing faster than Dana White can buy it up. Now there is M1, WEC, K1, UCF and the new WCL {World Combat League}. Not to mention the ever growing armature MMA circuits across the country. So we can see enjoy more than the bi-annual UFC fights.
I still think it was a real bummer that Pride was bought out. Maybe someday well get to see Fedor Emelianenko and Randy Couture finally have their day. It also opens up a lot more doors for potential athletes in the MMA world. I believe most martial artists and some MMA people will enjoy the WCL. Any fan of Martial arts full contact or point fighting would surely enjoy these matches!
